Two Powerful Blanking Modes in the DADISICK DK-QM Safety Light Curtain

Sep 3,2026

Conventional safety light curtains stop the machine the moment any beam is broken. But on a real production line, beams get interrupted all the time for legitimate reasons: a fixed bracket sits permanently in the field, a conveyor side guide crosses the opening, or a rope or cable is fed continuously through the detection zone. Every one of those expected interruptions triggers an unnecessary stop, and every stop is lost uptime.

The DADISICK DK-QM Series safety light curtain solves this with two configurable blanking logic modes. Each mode is designed for a different class of obstruction, and both keep the remaining protective field fully active. The result: fewer nuisance stoppages, higher machine availability, and reliable detection of genuine intrusions such as hands and arms.

The Two Blanking Modes at a Glance

DK-QM two blanking modes overview: Fixed Blanking blanks specific beams while others stay active; Single-Beam Tolerance tolerates one interrupted beam but triggers the output on two or more

ModeWhat It DoesBest For
Fixed Blanking
(Fixed Beam Blanking)
Blanks one or more specific beams at fixed, predefined positions. The blanked beams never trigger the safety output; all other beams remain fully active.Fixed brackets, conveyor side guides, material supports, and other permanent machine structures.
Single-Beam Tolerance
(Two-Beam Detection Logic)
Tolerates a single interrupted beam without activating the output. The output is triggered only when two or more beams are interrupted simultaneously.Small-diameter objects such as ropes, cables and wires that continuously pass through the protected area.

Mode 1: Fixed Blanking (Fixed Beam Blanking)

Many machines have structural components that must physically pass through the protective field: a bracket, a guide rail, a support frame or a fixed tooling fixture. With Fixed Blanking, you blank exactly the beams these structures occupy. Those beams are permanently ignored, while every other beam continues to provide normal protective detection.

Fixed blanking example: beams 10 to 12 are blanked to accommodate a fixed obstruction while all other beams remain active

Typical applications:

  • Conveyor side guides
  • Fixed brackets and mounting structures
  • Material supports
  • Fixed machine structures that cannot be removed from the opening

Mode 2: Single-Beam Tolerance (Two-Beam Detection Logic)

Fixed Blanking handles stationary obstructions. But what about objects that move through the field continuously, such as a rope, cord, cable or wire being fed into a machine? For these applications, the DK-QM can be configured with Single-Beam Tolerance, a beam-count-based interruption logic.

Beam ConditionDetection Response
One beam interruptedTolerated — no output; the safety output remains in its normal state
Two or more beams interruptedOutput triggered — the protective field is considered interrupted

Single-beam tolerance logic: one interrupted beam produces no output; two or more interrupted beams trigger the safety output

Instead of permanently blanking a fixed position, this mode evaluates the number of simultaneously interrupted beams. A small-diameter object crossing a single beam does not stop the machine. But a hand or arm entering the field interrupts multiple beams at once, and the safety output responds immediately.

The 10–12 mm rope example: a rope with a diameter of approximately 10–12 mm can pass continuously through the light curtain, even moving slightly during operation, without triggering a stop. At the same time, the DK-QM reliably detects hands, arms and larger objects that interrupt two or more beams.

Operating sequence: clear area, one beam blocked, two beams blocked, hand or arm detected

For a rope-feeding application, the net effect is simple and powerful: the continuously moving rope is tolerated, while the safety function remains fully capable of detecting a genuine intrusion.

Built for High-Precision, Type 4 Protection

The DK-QM Series combines these flexible blanking modes with high-resolution detection and robust construction:

Application Scenarios

Thanks to these two blanking modes and its resolution range, the DK-QM adapts to a wide range of production environments.

DK-QM application scenarios: rope or cable conveying, material feeding, automated production lines, and packaging and palletizing

  • Rope or cable conveying — ropes and cables pass through the field continuously
  • Material feeding — slender materials are fed through while operators stay protected
  • Automated production lines — complex automation with moving parts
  • Packaging and palletizing — operator safety without affecting material flow

Summary

The DK-QM Series gives machine builders and plant engineers a flexible way to handle the obstructions that conventional light curtains cannot tolerate. Fixed Blanking accommodates permanent structures, while Single-Beam Tolerance allows small moving materials to pass through without stopping production, all while preserving reliable detection of genuine intrusions.
