Q:What is the interference solution for safety light curtains? Positioning and Encoding.

Update Time:2025/5/27
DADISICK, a highly sensitive protective device, is increasingly showing strong momentum in the application of safety systems in the manufacturing industry. In some high-end manufacturing plants, large workstations have fully adopted two-dimensional or even three-dimensional protection systems.

More production equipment, in situations where frequent intervention is required, will almost always choose to use safety light curtains as a solution after considering risks such as material splashing, sparks, and dust dispersion.

The benefits of using safety light curtains are as follows:
1. The technology industry chain of sensitive protective devices is mature, the product classification is clear, and various resolutions and safety performance levels can meet the requirements.
2. Safety technology is developing rapidly, various aspects of improved technology are constantly breaking through, norms are constantly forming, and the future standardization path is clear.
3. As an active defense technology, safety light curtains can achieve automatic reset in most cases, effectively solve the grounding problem in the production process, greatly reduce the complexity of operation, and improve production efficiency.

DADISICK provides products such as safety light curtains and scanners. As a safety-sensitive protective device, safety light curtains bring convenience in use, but signal interference is also one of the problems that must be solved.

Signal interference of safety light curtains usually comes from two aspects:

1.Interference from the environment:
If there is a reflective surface near the light beam emitted by the safety light curtain, passive reflection will cause the light curtain's receiving end to receive an erroneous reflected signal, making it impossible to detect intrusion in the protected area.

2.Interference between adjacent light curtains:
Due to the widespread use of safety light curtains in adjacent areas and the long protection distance of the light curtain components themselves, signal misalignment may occur between the transmitter and receiver of adjacent light curtains.

Interference solutions for safety light curtains:
In order to effectively avoid the above-mentioned types of interference, physical positioning and technical measures can be taken.

Regarding the positioning of the safety light curtain relative to the reflective surface:

[1] Reflective surface
[2] Safety light curtain transmitter
[3] Safety light curtain receiver
[4] Half scanning angle
[5] Minimum distance from the safety light curtain to the reflective surface

Physical positioning:
The safety light curtain itself has a fixed scanning angle. The specific parameters can be found in the light curtain technical manual. The positioning of the light curtain transmitter and receiver can also be determined according to working conditions. With these two sets of parameters, the minimum distance to prevent reflection interference can be calculated using trigonometric functions such as tangent (tan) or cotangent (cot).

In the case of using multiple sets of adjacent light curtains, additional physical barriers can be used, or the installation order of the receiver and transmitter can be reversed to solve the signal interference between the light curtains.

Use of multiple sets of adjacent light curtains:
Technical measures:
In addition to physical means, some models of safety light curtains also integrate coding functions, which can effectively prevent interference even if the physical installation positions are close to each other. The coding function enables the light curtain to work properly even when it is interfered by other light curtains. This function is particularly useful when the transmitter of one pair of light curtains may directly transmit light to the receiver of another pair of light curtains. As long as different coding is configured for the two pairs of light curtains, the mutual interference problem between them can be effectively solved.
