How does a vehicle light curtain accurately detect the length and speed of a vehicle?

The vehicle light curtain accurately measures the length and speed of the vehicle through precise beam scanning technology. The main principles are as follows:

Detect vehicle length

· Multiple infrared light curtain arrays span the lanes to form a dense detection area.

· When a vehicle passes by, the time difference between the first and last beams of the blocked beams multiplied by the vehicle's moving speed can be used to calculate the vehicle length.

· The smaller the beam spacing (such as 2.5mm/5mm), the higher the measurement accuracy.

Detect vehicle speed

· The front of the vehicle first blocks a group of beams, and the system records the first blocking time;

· During the movement of the vehicle, multiple beams are blocked continuously, and the system calculates the average speed based on the time difference and distance of these blocking points;

· Usually, dual light curtain distance measurement method or time difference speed measurement method is used.

Advantages

· Non-contact, non-destructive detection;

· Real-time response, suitable for high-speed traffic;

· Can accurately identify various types of vehicles (cars, trucks, trailers, etc.).

Application scenarios

· Widely used in highway toll stations, ETC systems, lane separation detection, intelligent transportation systems, etc.

· Through high-precision measurement and fast response, vehicle light curtains can achieve accurate classification, billing and traffic statistics.
